Meeting Notice:
Our next meeting will be held on: November 8th, 2014
We meet the second Saturday of each month in the woodshop of the Harding School in
Coos Bay. The Harding Building is located below Marshfield High School on 7th Street.
Parking is behind the building near the football/track field. Enter the workshop through
the door on at the NW corner of the building. Look for our sign on 7th street and near
the door to the classroom.
Members, Guests and Prospective members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Meetings
begin at 9am and include a club raffle, show and tell, woodturning demo and regular club
business. Coffee is also provided.
Guests included:
3 guests were present at the October meeting.
October Meeting Recap:
Ike called the meeting to order at 9:00am.
Treasurers report: $2,377,70 currently in our accounts. Ron gave breakdown of what
was sold and handed out checks to members that sold at the festival. Again, Ron is challenging
everyone to make a top each time you are in your shop. Tops are our biggest seller and they
sell FAST!
The December meeting will be the Christmas party at Rick and Joanie’s. Big thanks to
them for hosting again this year. A new twist for this year is that if you would like to receive a
gift at the party you will need to bring a turned ornament.
Ed reminded everyone to pay their dues for 2015. The sooner you get them in, the less
we bug you about it.
Kelly said that the library information is now on the website. Go check it out.
There were 16 members present and 3 guests.
Ikes Corner:
It‘s time for all members of the South Coast Woodturners to renew their membership.
For $20 an individual or $25 a family, you can be current in membership for the 2015
year. The upcoming November meeting will be our last regular meeting of the 2014 year
making it the right time to pay your 2015 dues.Bev Meyers has assumed responsibility for
managing the club membership (Ed has
taken on equipment management) for the coming
year. Bev is the person to see at the
next meeting to pay your 2015 dues.
This is also a reminder to renew your AAW membership. Those of us AAW “old-timers”
are on a calendar year payment schedule. Since a few years ago AAW changed from a
calendar year to an annual dues plan, some of you newer members may not be up for
renewal at this time. Check your membership to see when you are due. General
individual membership is $55 (6 mailed magazines); Family membership is $60 (6
mailed magazines); and Online membership is $45 (magazine is online). Please support
AAW when it is time to renew your dues.
As an AAW member you have access to 6 magazines, online materials, and help
support our local club. The liability insurance that protects us is paid in part by AAW. Our
club has a great library, a quality lathe, and AV equipment because of funds from AAW.
AAW is a good investment for the members of the South Coast Woodturners.
Jim’s Program Notes:
November Program
This month we will have Michael Meredith doing a demonstration of thread chasing. He
will also be showing what his finishes will do for your turnings. Michael is a retired
biochemist from Oregon State and is very knowledgeable in toxicology. Please make
welcome visitors and demonstrators that we may have from other turning clubs.

Treasurer’s Report:
See the notes from the October meeting above.
The new library listing is up on the SCWT web site with many thanks to Shelley Knapp
our web master. USE IT!!
If any of our members have DVD’s or books they would like to share with the rest of the
group we would be more than happy to accept them. Does anyone have suggestions
for items we should buy, just let me know.
Also a reminder that one of the many benefits of being a member of SCWT is that we
get a 15% discount on turning related items at our local Oregon Tool and Supply. Just
show your membership card. The KLINSPOR Woodworker Supply has SCWT on its list
for discounts if want to shop on line. Any questions on this see me at the October
R. Kelley/SCWT Librarian
Store:  We now have hats. $15, they are green bill with Tan top. Items are still available, priced
better than most other options.
Are there any ideas as to what we could stock that would sell??
USE IT, USE IT, USE IT!! If you have photos you would like loaded to it, just email the
images to Shelley Knapp with a description of the image. If you would like your own
area to show off your work, email Shelley a biography of yourself and your turnings.
