SOUTHCOAST WOODTURNERS NEWSLETTER
News of the South Coast Woodturner’s Club
A Chapter of the American Association of Woodturner’s
Our next meeting will be held on: August 8th, 2015 at 9:00am
We meet the second Saturday of each month in the woodshop of the Harding School in Coos Bay. The Harding Building is located below Marshfield High School on 7th Street. Parking is behind the building near the football/track field. Enter the workshop through the door on at the NW corner of the building. Look for our sign on 7th street and near the door to the classroom.
Members, Guests and Prospective members are welcome and encouraged to attend. Meetings begin at 9am and include a club raffle, show and tell, woodturning demo and regular club business. Coffee is also provided.
Please bring your calendar to the August meeting as we will be scheduling members to assist during the Cranberry Festival September 12-13. This is an enjoyable opportunity to spend time with fellow club members. Remember the club needs lots of tops to offer for sale.
At our August meeting I will be providing information on details related to the club’s annual Christmas party. The board has determined two prepared meal options. Following a sharing of the details and answering questions, a vote will be taken.
The board is still searching for a candidate for the position of secretary for the 2016 year. The club has volunteers for president, vice president, and treasurer. The secretary position calls for keeping notes of the monthly meetings, minutes of the board meetings, sending out the monthly newsletter, and serving on the executive board. Please contact me if you would consider serving the club in this position.
Hope you will be able to attend the August meeting as we will have an outstanding demonstration from professional turner Tom Hastings from Newport. In addition we have the items noted above to address. I look forward to seeing you on August 8th. Ike
Jim’s Program Notes:
I am really looking forward to our August demonstration. Tom Hasting from Newport will be our demonstrator. After retiring, Tom opened a woodshop in Newport. He now has a 2000+ square foot shop and classroom. He will bring his Alumilite & Burl Castings to his demo. He also stabilizes wood. This demo will be a how to build your own products in your shop. He is one of the leaders in the Oregon Symposium officers and board. The Central Coast Wood Turners meet in his shop on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Visit his web site, gallery and courses he offers at www.hastingcoastalwoodworks.com. He will bring some of his products for sale to the demo.
